Ninth Annual Israel Apartheid Week
The word “Apartheid” is one you will hear more and more. Webster defines Apartheid as: “racial segregation; specifically : a former policy of segregation and political and economic discrimination against non-European groups in the Republic of South Africa.” Black South Africans are denied political rights; denied access to white schools, hospitals and even entire cities. When people talk about apartheid today, they refer to legal systems that institutionalize segregation, discrimination and oppression on the basis of race, gender, sexuality or religion.
Why are people calling Israel an apartheid state? It is because they have not studied Israel’s history and are not willing to hear truth. Israel is not an apartheid state, in fact the exact opposite is the truth. Israel protects human rights:
- Israel safeguards religious liberty for all faiths
- All children in Israel without regard to religion or race receive subsidized education through the 12th grade Israel is a democratic country that enjoys free speech and assembly and fair and open trials
- Of all the Middle Eastern nations, Israel is the most racially mixed and the most tolerant and supportive of minorities
- Israel has enacted affirmative action policies to help minority citizens achieve full social and economic equality
Does it sound like Israel is an apartheid state?
2013 was the ninth year that Israel Apartheid Week was promoted throughout the world. Each country takes a different week, so the “week” lasts over a month. Anti-Israel propaganda is disbursed freely. Their aim is to manufacture an international perception of Israel as an “apartheid” state, much as South Africa was prior to 1994, when the Mandela government came to power.
During Apartheid Week in England, the Oxford University Student’s union overwhelmingly rejected a motion calling for blanket sanctions against Israel. Discussions continue among students, but an all-out boycott was thwarted.
Apartheid Week is a highly organized worldwide attack on Israel and the Jewish People. Scripture prophecies in Psalm 83:4: “They have said, ’Come, and let us wipe them out as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more.’” We are witnesses of the fulfillment of these Scriptures being played out right now. We are not to be fearful as we see the fulfillment occurring, but we are to continue steadfastly being a blessing to Israel and the Jewish People.
