One of the places I take our tour to visit is the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem. It is often referred to as “The Shuk” (“market” in Hebrew). It is normally a crowded, bustling outdoor shopping center filled with over 250 vendors who sell fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, fish, meats and cheeses, nuts, seeds, spices, wines, clothing, shoes and housewares. There are a lot of tiny restaurants offering falafels, shawarmas, kabobs and baklava. Juice bars and coffee shops abound.

Today, the marketplace is closed, waiting for locals and tourists to return.
