Disrespectful Islamic Responses to Death of Israel’s Former Prime Minister
Just hours after the death of Israel’s former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, jihadists fired rockets into Israel from the Gaza Strip. That was such a disrespectful attack, as it was by the very hand of Ariel Sharon, that the Gaza Strip was given freely to the Palestinian Authority in 2005. Within months the Palestinian Authority handed that land over to the terrorist group, Hamas, and has haunted Israel ever since with rocket fire.
According to Jihad Watch, “Hamas on Saturday called Sharon’s death a ‘historic moment’ that marked the ‘disappearance of a criminal whose hands were covered with Palestinian blood.’”
While Israelis mourn Sharon, Palestinian leaders from both the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority and the Islamist Hamas movement celebrated his death. Meanwhile, Palestinians passed out sweets to celebrate Sharon’s death.
Shortly after the former prime minister’s funeral, several rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Israel. No physical damage was done, but the emotional damage was felt by mourning Israelis.
Regardless of how someone feels about another, there should at least be respect for a time of mourning and not a time of celebration of a death.
